Three Killed As SUV Catches Fires After Crashing Into Utility Pole

Three people were killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash involving an SUV on Long Island overnight.

It happened at about 11 p.m. Monday, July 8 in Mount Sinai.

The SUV was traveling northbound on Mount Sinai-Coram Road, north of Hamlet Drive, when it left the roadway, crashed into a utility pole and caught on fire, Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives determined.

The driver and two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
